New Interview out now! Interview with Marq Evans and Dick Perez, artist of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and iconic Diamond King Set!
As we officially enter the month of the National, there is so much excitement around the hobby. July marks the middle of baseball season, the All-Star game, the National Sports Collectors convention, and the highest point of demand for sports cards in the calendar year.
In the middle of all this madness is the first screening of the “Diamond King” - A documentary film about the life and career of baseball hall of fame artist Dick Perez. Earlier this year I met with Dick and Director Marq Evans, and was hired to be the social media manager for the film, and it has been a blast getting to learn more about the history of the game through Dick’s stunning artwork.
This interview with Marq and Dick talks about how the two met, the journey and process of making the film, the new release of the Diamond King Movie National Limited Edition baseball card set, and my sneak preview of the Diamond King X Bonkers Cards Break that will be officially dropped next week!
I also have this interview in podcast form on Spotify podcasts if you would like to listen there: (subscribe to the podcast please!)

Updates to the Diamond King X Bonkers Break!
I am getting the final touches done on the release of our next break - The Diamond King X Bonkers Break that will include all different cards, autographs, and collectibles related to the life and work of Dick Perez and the Diamond King movie.
I will have a complete set of the “Celebrations” Perez-Steel set as well as the complete set autographed, and over 30 autographed pieces of other Dick Perez works of other notable Hall of Famers.
Additionally, this break is going to include extremely limited cards and collectors sets that are being released in coordination with the movie release and screening at the National.
These sets include the limited edition post card sets, the “Immortals” complete set, and the new JUMBO National X Diamond King set that features 7 of the most iconic Cleveland Indian players of all time. More information on this set can be found on the website, and I also made a video this week regarding the announcement!
My Red, White, and Blue - Personal Collection American Flag!
In honor of today being the Fourth of July, I thought it only was right to make a “Baseball Card American Flag” by picking my favorite red, white, and blue vintage baseball cards in my personal collection.
I will be posting this picture in the Bonkers Cards Facebook Group and want to challenge all of YOU to post your best “American Flag” 3 cards from your PC.
I love my Moose rookie card in SGC 8 for ‘54 set. Bill Skowron was the first basemen for the Yankees during their dominant run of the 1950s, and this card has a special place in my PC.
As a kid, one of my first “vintage” cards was a reprint of this card from the Topps Archives sets in the early 2000s. I remember actually finding the value of the reprint card in the Beckett Magazine (yes before I knew of such things like eBay comps and VCP) and saw it was worth $50. (I thought it was anyway - looking back it was likely the autographed variation that was worth that LOL)
Now as a “big kid” I was able to buy the real thing, from my favorite set in an impeccable SGC 8 grade. I always love this card, and the bold red color.
This Ernie Banks rookie is one the best cards from my favorite set, and also one of the few cards that come to mind with a clean white background. I will eventually upgrade this card to a 5 or 6, but the centering on this card is so hard to find and I always have really enjoyed it.
Now, I know this is a light blue color vs. the darker Navy Blue that Old Glory flies with, but I really wanted to include it because this card is just one of my favorites ever. The sky blue background, the art of the early bowman sets, it’s just a beauty.
I picked this up at the National in Chicago last year, and I am so excited to see what PC card makes its way home from Cleveland this year like this one.
I’d love to see YOUR picks of your best Red, White, and Blue cards from your PC - post them in my Facebook Group! (here is the link to join!)
Grateful - my view on the first half of this year:
With July here we are now officially half way through 2024. I wanted to take a second to thank everyone here for what has been an incredible first half to the year, and for all the time and enjoyment you have given me and my channel.
I was reflecting on June and some of the amazing collections that have come through the channel, and I wanted to post this video from me driving to pick up a large collection I had purchased:
I share this to say the relationships I have formed from this hobby and channel are incredibly important to me. I am so thankful for each and every one of you that take time out of your day to read this newsletter, watch my videos, or join my LIVE shows.
You can expect more amazing cards on the show, exciting vintage breaks, and more discussions of baseball history as we go through the back half of 2024.
Buying Collections!
Last month I was fortunate to have purchased several amazing collections from members of the Bonkers Cards Community - and I want to continue to do so.
I am planning on attending the National at the end of this month where I will be buying a ton of card for the show, but in the mean time I will also be looking to purchase more cards for our weekly LIVE shows.
I typically purchase cards for 80% of the average sales value over the last year through VCP, and am happy to give you a value /estimate of what your cards are worth if you are interested in selling.
If you are looking to sell any of your cards, please reach out to me either by email at bonkerscards@gmail.com or DM on any of my social channels!
